What would happen in a world without farmers?

Can you imagine our world without farmers? Our society is doing very well in creating great comfort and moving from one advancement to another in terms of technological devices and high-tech processes. However, one thing that is sometimes neglected or given minimal care is agricultural advancement. Not many countries are trying to put this on their list of high priority developments. The focus is more on industrialization. What if everyone jumped into high-tech research and stopped applying the knowledge to agriculture?

Even if we could imagine a world thriving on pills and not physical food, we cannot imagine complete independence from carbon-based things because most of our daily needs are carbon-based. It goes without saying that farmers are an indispensable part of our society. There is no doubt about this, but there is also no doubt that farmers do not receive due consideration for their noble task.

In many societies, farmers are always treated as belonging to the lower class. In some jurisdictions, large landowners take advantage of farmers, and yes, these landowners are the ones who benefit from the farmers’ blood, sweat, and tears. Tenure is practiced in different countries. Farmers who work from dawn to dusk don’t even own the land they are farming. Agreements vary. It may be that there is a pre-established percentage in the product. Or they may anticipate the target output per hectare or acre and will set a price to be given to the owner of the land. The first agreement gives greater security to the farmer because crop yields are highly unavoidable. It depends both on natural phenomena and on the care provided by the farmer.

In tropical regions where storms or typhoons are as frequent as twenty a year, farmers’ faith is placed almost entirely in the hands of Mother Nature. If the agreement reached is the second, that is, a predetermined amount to be delivered. The farmer may find himself in debt after the harvest if the crops are devastated. On the other hand, if the yield is a golden crop, the farmer will win. This does not usually happen because the owners are wise and sometimes greedy.

In other cases, the farmer may own the land he is farming, but is held captive by entrepreneurs, offering him loans for seedlings, fertilizer and pesticides. The farmer has no choice but to come to an agreement that will deprive him of a considerable part of his yield.

Farmers are essential. This is repeated for emphasis. Whatever your job or status in life, you have a farmer to thank.
