The term Cyber Monday was coined in 2005, where it ushered in the most successful online shopping after Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving. Large-scale businesses use Cyber Monday as a means to entice consumers to buy items online without the hassle of waiting in line or fighting other shoppers once the store opens. This particular day has been extremely successful, as the day itself is now celebrated in other countries around the world, particularly in the Americas and selected countries in Europe.
Cyber Monday was originally coined on November 28, 2005 from Shops.org following a study where 77% of sales were made online, so there is a substantial increase in sales and profits. Over the years, this day has had an impact only in the United States, drawing customers to select large retailers such as Macy’s, Kohls, Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Target, etc. More and more consumers are easily buying items online to take advantage of great deals and great savings on shipping. In fact, the day’s sales are so successful (according to a 2010 census) that consumers surpassed a billion dollars in purchasing products online in preparation for Christmas and New Years alone.
Cyber Monday is a day when shoppers can safely buy products online. However, the downside is tolerating the amount of traffic coming to a website. However, the number of consumers entering the website can cause a system crash and overload the servers. Regardless of server failures, website management enables consumers to successfully purchase their items online without falling victim to in-store violence.
On the other hand, Cyber Monday is considered a safer purchase. Before Cyber Monday is Black Friday. This is one day after Thanksgiving. Black Friday, like Cyber Monday, is a day when consumers can buy your merchandise. However, instead of doing it online, customers have to wait in front of the store and wait for the doors to open. In some states, stores open at four in the morning. Depending on the store, some stores open at midnight or eight in the morning. These days are considered one of the busiest days of the year where thousands of customers enter the store. Unlike Cyber Monday, which you buy from the comfort of your home, Black Friday is more conflictive. Cases of violence have been documented on Black Friday that have caused people to become involved in arguments, physical confrontations and, more recently, shootings.
