Things to do to prepare for a photo shoot

Preparing for your photo shoot, especially when you’re hiring a photographer, is important to ensure good results. Here are some recommended steps for your consideration:

1. Source the right photographer – You need to know if the photographer you are hiring has the experience in the area you are looking for. Many freelance photographers specialize in just 1 or 2 areas, like wedding shoots or personal portfolios. Ask for recommendations. You can also approach the photographer or service provider for their jobs. Normally, a visit to their website can give you an indication, but until you try them, you’ll never know. It is also important that you can accept their shooting styles. What your friends like may not apply to you, which brings this to point 2.

2. Knowing your photographer – Set aside some time, 30 minutes or so, to talk to your photographer. Get to know his style of photography and have him fill you in on the basics of photography. Feel free to share with him any of his ideas if you plan to inject his personal touch. Provide more of your experience and personality that you want me to bring out during the session. This will help you plan your session to create your desired results.

3. Select your outfits – You may want to choose your outfits to match the theme of your shoot. From shooting a music album, a personal portfolio for your resume, to important events like bridal shoots, your outfit can have an impact on the look and feel of your photos. To some extent, the chosen location and background should also complement the theme. Take the time to think about this or talk to your photographer for suggestions. However, if you’re not too particular, then you don’t need to spend too much time in this area.

4. Makeup and Hair – There are 3 ways to do this. You can choose your makeover done by your own stylist; by the stylist provided in the package or simply by yourself. If you are doing it yourself, here are some tips.

Make-up: Bring your own makeup supplies for touch-ups. Sorting out the outline or basic elements will speed things up during the session.

Hate: Come to the session with your hair ready for the first look. AVOID cutting it right before the session in case it doesn’t come out right. If your hair is dry, opt for a conditioning treatment. Get your roots done or touch up the colors if you dye your hair.

5. Charges and Payment – While it’s practical to shop around for the lowest priced package, it’s more important that your photographer be able to deliver the desired results. Packages that are too low to be true may have hidden costs. On the other hand, an exorbitant package may not meet your shooting requirements. The bottom line is that you should be comfortable with what you’re getting for the amount you’re paying.

6. Rest before the photo session – Relax and sleep well at night. It puts you in a good mood, which is the best way to ensure that you will have impressive photos. Avoid drinking too much water just before sleeping. This help prevents puffy eye bags from occurring on the face.

Recharge, arrive on time and enjoy the whole experience!
