The best ski resorts in Russia

Go off-piste with Russia’s hidden gems and discover all that Russian ski resorts have to offer, for yourself. Russia has the highest ski slope in Europe, the largest snow-covered territory in the world and the longest ski season. Welcome!

1) Prielbrusie

Ski on the highest mountain in Europe, Mount Elbrus, in the Central Caucasus mountain range on the continental divide.

More than 250,000 skiers each season enjoy slopes from 1,000 to 1,500 meters long at a height of 3,500 meters.

2) Dombay

Located high in the Teberdinsky Nature Reserve, Dombai boasts 20 kilometers of slopes with forest trails and six different heli-ski routes.

3) Roza Khutor

It offers 38km of runs ranging from green to black on the northern slopes of Aibga Ridge.

With the largest artificial snow system in Europe, snowmakers can extend the ski season to 180 days a year on some slopes.

4) Baikalsk

The most famous (and popular) ski resort on Lake Baikal was only established in the 1990s.

Baikalsk is the destination for downhill slalom enthusiasts. Also, it is right next to Lake Baikal.

5) Sheregesh

Locals have been skiing here since it opened in 1981 to host the Spartakiada Games (sort of like the Soviet Olympics).

The slopes range from 700m to a staggering 3,900m long on the slopes of Mount Zelyonaya, so don’t forget to pack a snack.

6) Bobrovy Trunk

Located in the mountains surrounding the city of Krasnoyarsk, you could literally ski down to lunch and be back at work before anyone even notices you’re lost.

A great new ski resort with a new amusement park infrastructure for those who want more than just skiing and snowboarding at its finest.

7) Belokurikha Resort

Come for the scenery and stay for… more scenery.

While the resort only has three runs (between 1 and 3 km long), the southern areas are framed by towering granite cliffs and towering peaks covered in thick pine forests and carpets of rare wildflowers.

8) Mount Moroznaya

The slalom slopes start steps from the apartment blocks in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, you can roll out of bed onto the slopes.

Six slalom tracks between 850 and 2,050 meters attract visitors and the natural hot springs of the Paratunka Spa

9) Krasnaya Sopka

A view of the volcanoes of Kamchatka from the southern slopes and steep slopes that athletes dream of make Krasnaya Sopka a perfect destination for beginners and professionals alike.

10) Gorny Vozdukh

A great day trip destination. The Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk station has nine tracks (two yellow, five red, one green and one black), with a total length of 10 km.

11) Gladenkaia

Relatively new, Gladenkaya is located in the beautiful Sayan mountains.

Enjoy more than 3,144 meters of slopes with slopes ranging from 12 percent to 45 degrees (that’s really steep).

12) Azish-Tau Ski Resort

Ski until you drop on more than 45 km of slopes in Azish-Tau. Located in one of the most beautiful destinations in Russia, the Lago-Naki Plateau, Azish-Tau is a natural retreat.

The 1,500-meter slopes start almost two kilometers above sea level and offer stunning views of the surrounding area.

The resort also has two rabbit runs and 24 runs from 600 meters to over 4 km long for skiers of all levels.
