The 10 best ideas for Father’s Day

With Father’s Day fast approaching, I thought I’d share my top 10 things to do or buy to show Dad how special he is on June 21, 2009.

1. Buy a good quality photo album or digital photo frame and add photos from family vacations, most of which are probably still in your camera.

2. Make Dad Eat Breakfast in Bed Food and relaxation are usually top of his priority list and here he’s combining the two.

3. Bring out your inner Jamie Oliver with a cooking course. It’s about time he perfected his skills. Hopefully part of the course will include not using all the pans in the house and a quick guide to doing the dishes afterwards!

4. Let him watch sports on TV without interrupting. Remember that it is not helpful to point out that it is just “a game”.

5. Planning an afternoon outing, a walk in a park or along the coast with a stop for tea or coffee is a good day out for everyone that doesn’t have to cost a fortune. If it’s a warm day, pack a picnic.

6. If you have small children, have them paint or draw a picture of you and your mother: a family portrait. Frame it or paint it directly on canvas to make it really special.

7. Book an adventure day. All men (including dads) like to think they’re Lewis Hamilton, so let them live out this dream with a few laps of their local race track in a sports car.

8. Look for a gift that you normally wouldn’t bother buying for yourself, but you’ll be glad your kids thought of, like a fancy pair of cufflinks.

9. Men’s grooming is again something you may not admit to being interested in, but if your kids buy you a fancy shaving kit, you’ll always be grateful.

10. If he’s a sports fan, a ticket to a major sporting event like The Ashes or the British Grand Prix this summer is a great gift for him and his family.

I hope the above is inspiring to you. Dads are special and Father’s Day can be overshadowed by Mother’s Day. Don’t let this happen this year and show him how happy you are to have him as your Dad.
