“Can a fortune teller really predict my future?” “Should I trust a fortune teller?” Those are the kinds of questions people ask me when they find out about my great interest in mysticism and the occult. I often told them about my interesting experience visiting a fortune teller as a teenager.
It was a warm summer afternoon. My friends and I were looking for some excitement in the last days of our vacation before starting high school. So we decided to go to the local fairgrounds and have fun. He was wearing a tank top and shorts, and was barefoot, my favorite outfit to this day. We came across a tent with a sign on the front that read: “Have a world famous fortune teller guess your fortune.” I thought it was interesting. He didn’t believe in any of that, but being an adventurous and rebellious teenager, he wanted to go inside and find out what it was like to visit a fortune teller. I was even thinking of making fun of the fortune teller, asking them some strange questions.
My friends were more interested in trying their luck and winning some stuffed animals in the arcade. So, I went into the store by myself. The fortune teller was a middle-aged woman dressed like a gypsy, in a colorful robe and a headscarf, and all kinds of strange jewelry. It looked quite comical and I couldn’t help but laugh. I quickly covered my mouth and pretended to cough.
The fortune teller greeted me, “Welcome, young lady. Sit down, I’ll be with you.” So, I sat down and propped my feet up on another chair. “Hey, get your dirty feet off my chair!” yelled the fortune teller. I was a little startled and said, “Wow, I’m sorry, Mom.” Glancing at his stern face, I tried very hard not to laugh again.
He pulled out of the chair and sat down at the table across from me. Before even asking me any questions, the fortune teller summed up my emotional state at the time. She said that she had just broken up with my boyfriend, whom she considered the love of my life, and felt a deep sadness inside me. I was stunned. How did he know? Before I had a chance to recover, she kept telling me that she would not go back to him. He was completely devastated, as he expected her to say otherwise.
I was giggling a minute ago, and now I found myself sobbing in front of the fortune teller. To make matters worse, I didn’t have a handkerchief and neither did she. So, I had to dry my tears and runny nose with my shirt. How embarrassing! I felt as if the fortune teller turned the table on me. I was planning to tease her, but it turned out that I was the one who felt humiliated.
However, the fortune teller showed some compassion. He tried to comfort me and told me that the universe had something better in store for me. He said that I should let my old boyfriend go because soon I would meet my true soul mate. This handsome man and I would get married and have children, drive a big truck, and live happily by the ocean. However, I didn’t really believe him as I thought he was just saying those things to make me feel better.
When I met my friends outside, I told them it was a great experience. “This gypsy fortune teller looked into a giant crystal ball and told me that he would meet my prince charming and that we would live happily ever after.” We all laughed a lot and continued to have fun at the fairgrounds.
The events that took place after my visit with the fortune teller were quite surprising, if not strange. A few months later I heard that my old boyfriend went back to his previous girlfriend and married her. Soon after, I met another boy. He was a few years older than me and he was absolutely gorgeous. We had a very passionate relationship. However, there were some things about him that my parents didn’t like and disapproved of our relationship.
However, the fortune teller’s words kept ringing in my ears. Even though I didn’t believe her at first, deep down I kept hoping that she was right and that this boy was the love of my life. So I decided to leave my parents and run away with him. We lived together in his old beat-up van that he parked near the beach. It was a lot of fun at first and I was having a lot of fun.
One day I found out that I was pregnant. My boyfriend got scared when I told him. As I was still a minor, I could not have an abortion without parental consent and he said he was not ready to have a child. Scared and confused, he took the easy way out and left me. Too much to be a soul mate. So, I decided to have the baby and my parents were kind enough to let me live with them again, even though my dad actually let me have it.
So, did the fortune teller’s predictions come true? Yes, in a twisted way. Am I going to see another fortune teller so they can tell me about my future? Probably not. I believe that we shape our own lives with our thoughts and actions. Today my little daughter and I are living our lives to the fullest and we believe that good things always await us. We don’t need a fortune teller to read our future as we know everything is fine.
Yes, there are legitimate fortune tellers and psychics who can predict your future based on the vibrations they are able to detect, and I cannot discredit them. Some people find comfort in hearing about their good luck, and that in itself will raise their vibration to a higher level. However, as I said, I personally believe that we have the most control over our own lives.
So the decision to see and trust a fortune teller is completely yours. If you decide to see one, you need to do your homework first so you don’t fall victim to scammers who are just looking for your money.
