Is Demand Studios worth it for freelance writers?

There are many websites online that advertise the need for talented freelance writers. Some of these sites are definitely worth the effort to write, while others are only good for beginners to get their feet wet. Many beginning and even intermediate freelance writers want to know if Demand Studios is one of those companies worth writing for, or if it’s a place to avoid.

What amazes me is how many people review this site spewing venom. But then again, there seem to be three or four writing blogs with really snobby writers who have made it to the top, or claim to, and then make fun of everyone else below them without giving any really helpful advice on how to get there. .

While currently limited to US writers only, and as with any site there are the downsides that go with the pros, Demand Studios offers one of the best opportunities for beginning freelance writers. Even mid-level freelancers can benefit, as Demand Studios always has work available, and therefore offers unlimited work from $15 to $30 per hour (which is what you can average once you’re familiar with the templates) during the periods of “famine” that occur throughout the cycle of feast and famine known as independent writing.

On top of this, writers get paid twice a week via PayPal, which is a huge improvement over the number of websites that pay their writers. The lack of a bidding setup, like with Guru or Elance, is another reason many writers prefer Demand Studios. The constant body of work it takes is definitely a huge plus among writers of all levels.

There are some negatives, most of which involve frustrations with the publishers. However, most of the time there won’t be any major issues, but early in the learning curve, be patient and learn the different requirements and expectations that come with each specific style. Give it some time and you’ll be surprised how well Demand Studios works for you.
