Industrial Security Police and Private Police

Currently, in the industrial circle the terms police and private police are widely used. While the term police refers to regular police authorities, private police generally refers to industrial security services hired by employers. The difference between the two is quite prominent. While the first is the body that implements the law; the latter is the one that works within the scope of the law to prevent trespassing, sabotage and theft in the industrial unit.

However, those private police who work for industrial security are subject to the general supervision of the regular police. Accountable for their actions to law enforcement agencies, these agencies act as internal security by policing within the organization.

Although the two services are different in the fact that uniformed personnel carry out policing tasks much more frequently than inmates or private police. However, there are some circumstances where the operation of the two matches up quite perfectly. In such a case, their respective actions become similar.

The growth of private police defending industrial security as an industry is basically a phenomenon that grew in the 20th century. However, individual concepts of such surveillance prevailed long ago in history. Countries and especially the commercial world where competition and rivalry are intense provide an ideal platform for the evolution of private police for security protection in industrial units. In some countries such as England, private police not only preceded public police, but also required the introduction of regular public police.

Like England, in many countries, state-controlled law enforcement agencies grew out of private organizations that were established primarily for the maintenance of public order. One of the objectives of private police organizations was also to promote and protect private interests. However, the public police were concerned with the public interest that covered the common areas of society.

In stark contrast to what happened in the UK, private police were a branch of public police in the United States. New York was the first city to have public police services.

It all started with wealthy merchants who hired security guards to protect their property and interests. However, it gradually developed into a complete industry that provides industrial security to large, medium and small enterprises.
