Inculcation of Values ​​through Co-Curricular Activities

Co-curricular values ​​play a very important role in instilling different values ​​in students. For the comprehensive development of the personality of students, extracurricular activities are considered very important nowadays. Previously, the term “extracurricular activities” was used for outdoor activities and other cultural programs organized at the school. But at present this term has been discarded taking into account the importance of these activities. In many progressive schools there is an allocation of certain periods for these co-curricular activities in their regular schedule.

Through these activities, many values ​​can be instilled profitably. Co-curricular activities form an integral part of the modern school curriculum. They must become more and more purposeful and fruitful, as well as value-oriented with the democratic base and purposeful pursuit. This can be done, provided the children have the opportunity to have a living experience of the moral life through these activities.

In outdoor activity programs, children are taken outside of school to areas for adventure, art and cultural appreciation, and places of historical value. They can be approached ways in the formation of initiative, teamwork, self-discipline and learn a lot about our cultural heritage and historical details. In addition to games and sports, there are various outdoor activities, namely NCC, Scouting & Guiding, Mountaineering, Trekking, Hiking, Excursions, etc., which can serve to instill desired values ​​among students and character building.

Almost all schools and colleges organize various festivals at deterrent levels. Festivals can be classified under three heads:

1. National Holidays

2. Religious Holidays

3. Anniversaries of birth/death of great people.

In addition to these, there are many occasions such as Sports Day, Teacher’s Day, Parents’ Day, Annual Day, UNO Day, etc., in which some literary and cultural activities are carried out in the school. Through these activities, leadership qualities, self-discipline, cooperation, teamwork, etc. can be easily developed. Through these activities, a new dimension can be given to the personalities of the students.
