A classic Woodstock party with party plates from the 70’s menu

A Woodstock party is a great way to introduce your guests to the days of the hippies, the meaning of protest music, and of course, some tasty 1970s favorites. These were the days of saucepans and pop rocks. Your Woodstock guests had better come on an empty stomach.

You could start your Woodstock buffet with some very healthy hippie dishes like your own homemade granola or brown rice and tofu. Not all guests will go for it though, so it’s time to look for more classic ’70s dishes. Some common appetizers were deviled eggs, stuffed celery, and popcorn. You can also look for Cornetas y Fritos so that diners can snack. Salad bars were very popular in the 1970s, so make a salad mix with dressings like the classics, sunflower seeds, alfalfa sprouts, and avocado. Popular dressings in the ’70s were French dressing, Russian dressing, and ranch. Continue the classic Woodstock party with Monte Cristo Sandwiches and a tasty cheese fondue. The dessert is the traditional jelly mold with pieces of fruit.

Egg, 1/2 tsp. salt, 1/8 tsp. white pepper, 1/8 tsp. yellow food coloring, 2/3 tsp. all-purpose flour, 1 3/4 tsp. baking powder, 8 slices of white bread, 4 slices (1 oz.) of turkey, 4 slices (1 oz.) of Swiss cheese, 4 slices (1 oz.) of ham, oil for frying, and powdered sugar.

You can start this tasty sandwich for your Woodstock party by mixing up the batter. In a bowl we put the water, the egg, the salt, the pepper and the colouring. Mix well. Add the flour and baking powder while mixing until the dough is smooth. Cool.

Use the bread, turkey, Swiss cheese, and ham to make four sandwiches. Be sure to place the cheese between the ham and turkey. Cut into quarters and place a toothpick in each quarter.

Heat about 6 inches of oil to 340 degrees in a deep fryer. Dip sandwiches in batter to cover all surfaces. Fry the sandwiches until golden brown. Remove from oil. Take out the toothpicks. Sprinkle with sugar.

The Montecristo Sandwich is a very tasty treat for your Woodstock party, but it goes quite well with a modern sauce. You’ll definitely want to balance this out with a lighter salad bar.
