The world can be changed with a little inspiration

Human beings are naturally flawed; It is what separates us from God. We face numerous difficulties in our daily lives and find it difficult to get out of our dire situations to achieve greatness. After a moment, we become complacent in our lives and work hard to maintain it. We would only need a little push to do better than we think we can because we have the potential, but we just need to step out of our comfort zone to achieve it. So how do we get out?

When someone accomplishes something seemingly impossible, they make us believe, even for a brief moment, that we can do something similar. After all, they are as human as we are. It is true that their situation and background must be very different from yours, but that by no means means that you cannot do your best as well.

Let me share a story with you, one that always inspires me to push harder.

An 18-year-old was diagnosed with bone cancer in his right leg. After many months of treatment and operations, his leg had to be amputated to save his life. You could have chosen to lie in bed or sit in a wheelchair for your entire life. He could have learned a little trade and lived a petty life because he was justified by his cancer. He could have let the cancer hit him even after the doctors removed everything from his body. But it did not. He didn’t just sit around and complain about life or cry to God, nor did he try to do little things in life to just exist. He trained 14 months with a new leg. He would get up every day and go for a walk so that his body could train itself to believe that nothing had changed too much. And this was only possible because he made a decision and had the determination to follow it. His next step was to run from east to west, across the country of Canada to raise awareness about cancer and do something about it. I wanted to save lives. And it is important that we note how his wish did not depend on anyone else fulfilling it for him, he did not ask anyone to run on his behalf but he got up and did it himself. On April 12, 1980, his ‘marathon of hope’, as the people called it, began from the easternmost point of Canada. He woke up at 4 a.m. and ran 26 miles every day, which is the average length of a marathon. It didn’t matter if it was raining or snowing, if the sun was shining on his head, he kept running. On his journey across the country, he inspired millions. And it does even today. His name is Terry Fox.

So if an 18 year old can achieve something so difficult for him in the situation he is in; If he can remain as hopeful and determined as he did, so can we. Terry Fox has been and will continue to be an inspiration to everyone around the world because we can all achieve the impossible, we just need to inspire and be inspired from time to time.
