Stainless Steel Soap: Does It Work?

I remember when I first heard that stainless steel soap could remove odors. I was quite enthralled and had to ask, does stainless steel soap work?

I did some research on stainless steel and its interaction with water in removing odors, and then I bought a stainless steel bath soap bar from Odor Works and tried it…and it worked!

In fact, I was surprised, even though it is scientifically proven that when stainless steel meets water, the volatile sulfuric acids that cause the odor are removed. It seemed too simple to be true.

To see if it worked, while in the shower I first washed with regular soap as usual. I then rubbed the De Odor Works bar under each arm for 30 seconds, as instructed. I had no underarm odor the rest of the day.

Does it work in the shower?

These bars work in the shower for me. I researched on the internet what other De Odor Works users were saying when using it as an underarm deodorant.

What I found was that most people said that it worked very well for them. A couple of users said it lasted about 6 hours and then they started noticing an odor. Some people said it didn’t work at all, but those people were very few.

As we know that a chemical reaction of odor removal occurs with stainless steel and water; and we know it works great for most people; I can only surmise that the body chemistry of some individuals is such that these bars are not effective for them.

Does it work in the kitchen?

There are smaller bars of stainless steel soap intended primarily for handwashing in the kitchen. These bars are used to eliminate odors such as onion, garlic and fish. Did it work in the kitchen for me? Yes very much so.

I again did some research to see what other users had to say.

For kitchen use, again I found that most people said it absolutely worked. Some said it worked if they used regular soap and washed off the onion juice first, while others said they just used the steel bar under running water and it worked great.

Once again there were those who said it didn’t work, and again they were in the minority.

One person made a very interesting statement about stainless steel and the smell. He commented that when you cut an onion with a knife, the knife does not retain the smell of the onion. Try it yourself and you will see that it is true.

So what is the general opinion: stainless steel soap, does it work? The answer is yes, it works to eliminate underarm odor and food odor in the vast majority of people; but in a small minority of people it works to some extent or not at all.
