The modern stereotype of cougar dating dates back over forty years. In the classic movie “The Graduate”, Dustin Hoffman utters a phrase that is now part of pop culture: “Mrs. Robinson, I think you are trying to seduce me.” Today we have TV shows like “Cougar Town” about older women dating younger men and society is much more accepting of this type of relationship. The question that remains is why would a sophisticated older woman opt for a young, inexperienced child?
Not long ago, such a relationship would be met with contempt and disapproval. While it was always accepted that older men dated much younger women, the opposite was considered immoral and wrong, as if the woman was taking advantage of the young, inexperienced man. So what are the reasons that lead older women to date younger men and seduce them?
1 – They can
As society becomes more tolerant, women who might otherwise have been quiet are now acting openly on their desire for a younger man. Although not everyone approves of it even today, it is much easier to be in such a relationship today than before.
2 – Attractive
Why would an older woman date young, attractive guys? For the same reason, all women would date a handsome boy, because she finds him attractive! Women simply want a handsome man by their side and the younger the guy, the better he is for her.
3 – They want
This is very simple. Younger or not, the man is still of legal age and has the right to choose his partner. If he chooses an older woman and if that older woman chooses him, then they are entering into a consensual relationship and they have the right to do so.
Long ago, the audience of “The Graduate” was genuinely surprised by the idea of an older woman seducing a young man. Today, most older men would see that relationship and secretly wish that they too had such a teacher at their young age.
