Corporate Social Responsibility and the Code of Ethics for Health and Care for the Elderly

Before hiring an outside service, such as home care, assisted living, nursing homes, and even services like a senior law attorney or financial planner, seniors and their families should look for evidence of ethical business practices.

Human life is precious

The company demonstrates that it serves each older customer as an individual who recognizes and addresses the unique needs and wants of each older customer.

The principle of cause and effect

The company demonstrates that the principle of cause and effect is understood and implemented through the training, guidance and supervision of each employee as they interact with each individual senior customer.

Simple old-fashioned good manners were implemented, as company policy not only improves the environment for employees, but also greatly improves personal interaction with older people. Make eye contact, speak clearly, listen well, and resolve conflicts with a positive mental state.

Example: an older person with Alzheimer’s disease can become obsessive and repetitive. An employee who becomes angry or agitated by this behavior (cause) will magnify this behavior in his client (effect)

An employee who learns to ‘go with the flow’ and redirect the senior customer in a kind and caring way (cause), diminishes this behavior (effect)

Integrity

The business shows honesty; including contractual agreements, expectations for service and care, scheduling, and protection against all forms of fraud and abuse.

The health and elderly care business adheres to safe hiring practices. This simply means that all employees are properly screened with state authorities to eliminate the chances of hiring someone who has a history of theft, fraud, or abuse of any nature.

I respect

The business demonstrates that each senior customer is treated with respect and honors the senior as a valuable elder with a past and a future.

The elderly are not gadgets to store. Each has a past and many have an interesting and exciting past. Encouraging older clients to share their life experiences in innovative ways not only improves the quality of life for this older adult, but also improves the quality within our communities.

When each individual’s life is respected and honored, continued self-giving is encouraged.

Social responsability

The company demonstrates that it not only adheres to the mandatory rules and regulations that govern the healthcare and care industry for the elderly, but that it exceeds the basic guidelines that are made evident by feeling that the elderly citizen feels that they really care and take care of it.

These companies are fiscally responsible, and at the same time, they are driven by the underlying intentions to provide the best possible care and service for our precious elderly population.
